I had the pleasure of visiting Charleston, South Carolina this past week. I was touring the historic downtown area, viewing beautiful Victorian homes with shutters, delightful gardens and cobblestone driveways.

When I asked the tour guide about real estate values, he proudly answered that the average home price in Charleston is $189,000, one of the most affordable in the USA. Since I am used to the values in San Diego and Palm Springs, I immediately began contemplating purchasing some of these awesome properties either to live in part time or as an investment. I could handle living in this area.

Then I started looking at actual homes in the historic area. The lowest price I located was a fixer for $1,500,000. Most of the homes were $2,500,000 to $5,000,000. After doing additional research I discovered these homes are very pricey because that’s where everyone wants to live.

Sound familiar? That’s why Southern California Real Estate is so valuable.

It’s where everyone that can afford it wants to live. AND Charleston I’m told has 105 degree temperatures in the summer with humidity!
